Proauthorism was first set down in February 2026 by Kevin Martin, a writer, designer and founding Proauthorist. Working with Artificial Intelligence on his own projects, he saw how much of its use in creative work was concealed: used in private, and denied in public.
He wanted to remove that deception from the process, and the dishonesty that came with it. The only way to do that was through transparency.
Proauthorism is the name for working that way.
Artificial Intelligence is being used to flood the creative industries with work that has no creative human vision behind it. It is content made simply for profit. Just press a button, create content.
Because of this flood of machine-made work, some publishers have stopped accepting manuscripts from new writers, and websites like Amazon’s self-publishing service now limit how many books one person can upload. Those rules were brought in to stop the flood, but they also shut out honest creators who did nothing wrong.
Proauthorism draws a clear line between that and genuine human-led collaboration. They are not the same thing, and they should never be spoken of in the same breath.
Anyone who makes things and works with Artificial Intelligence openly: writers, musicians, artists, filmmakers, designers.
There is nothing to join. You are a Proauthorist the moment you declare your work.
